The Role of Family Disintegration in Fostering Social Isolation Among Addiction Patients
Keywords:
family disintegration, social isolation, addictionAbstract
Addiction is a complex biopsychosocial disorder that significantly impacts individuals and their social environments [1]. It often leads to social isolation, where individuals withdraw due to stigma, shame, or deteriorating relationships [2]. Social isolation, in turn, intensifies addictive behaviors, limiting access to support systems and treatment [3]. Family disintegration—manifested through conflict, neglect, or divorce—plays a crucial role in both the development and maintenance of addiction [4]. A broken family structure often results in emotional instability and reduced coping mechanisms, increasing vulnerability to substance use [5]. This study examines how family disintegration contributes to social isolation among addiction patients, emphasizing the importance of family-based and social interventions in recovery.
